Who is ENOLA GAY ?
ENOLA GAY, eine deutsche Synthie-Pop-Band, wurde im Frühjahr 1991
von Harald W. (Gesang), Bernd P. (Keyboards und Gesang) und Robert W. (Keyboards
und Arrangements) gegründet und besteht in dieser Formation bis heute
unverändert.
Nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten in Hinblick auf die Orientierung
sowohl in musikalischer, als auch in inhaltlicher Programmatik (u.a. der Versuch
der Zusammenarbeit mit Gitarristen und Bassisten) kristallisierte sich im Laufe
zahlloser Diskussionen sehr schnell die heutige Identität der Band heraus. Dazu
gehört der bewusste und ausschließliche Einsatz synthetischer Klangerzeuger als
Ausdrucksmittel der 90er Jahre. Im Gegensatz zu inhaltsleeren, rein kommerziell
orientierten Produktionen auf dem Elektronik-Markt legt ENOLA GAY
besonderen Wert auf Melodie und Text.
Als konzeptionelle Klammer dient hierbei die Auseinandersetzung mit
zeitgeschichtlichen Themen, insbesondere mit dem Einsatz von Atomwaffen im 2.
Weltkrieg als Ausdruck existenzieller Bedrohung des Menschen. Trotzdem versteht
sich ENOLA GAY als Popband. Der Einsatz moderner Computer-Techniken paart
sich mit tanzbaren Rhythmen und eingängigen Gesangsmelodien. Ähnlichkeiten mit
dem Synthie-Pop der 80er sind nicht nur zufälliger Natur, sondern Grundlage zur
Entwicklung einer neuen Pop-Kultur in den 90er Jahren. Als Teil dieser
Pop-Kultur versteht sich ENOLA GAY: Kommerzialität und Anspruch schließen
einander nicht aus !

ENOLA GAY is a german synthpop group, formed in early 1991 by
Harald W. (lead vocals), Bernd P. (keys and vocals) and Robby W. (keys and
arrangements). The line-up of the band remained the same since then.
Starting with difficulties according to their musical expression and
what they´d like to say (they even tried to work with guitars and e-bass), a lot
of discussions followed up and formed their up-to-date identity. The use of
synthetic sounds and computer aided composition is their attitude to deal with
the 90´s. Unlike meaningless, just commercial productions on the electronic
music market they love melody and lyrics.
The connecting link is the discussion on contemporary history,
especially the use of atomic weapons in World War II. as a figurative expression
for the assault of human existance. Nevertheless ENOLA GAY is still a pop
band. They use modern computer technique, danceable rhythms and sing-a-long
lyrics. Similarity to the synthpop of the 80´s is not just incidentle but the
base for development of a new pop culture in the 90´s. Therefore ENOLA
GAY is a part of this culture: commercial success goes along with high
demands.
