The Enola Gay Debate
A collection of materials documenting the public debate between veterans and
the National Air and Space Museum concerning the proposed Enola Gay exhibit.
The debate began in August of 1993 and hit a crucial point when the Smithsonian canceled the original
exhibit on January 31, 1995. The Smithsonian's new Enola Gay exhibit opened to the public on June 27, 1995.
As of September 1996, some 1.7 million people had visited the exhibit.
